On May 12th, a group of middle-school and high-school students toured the beautiful DePaul University campus, for many this was thier first time in a college setting. This trip was helpful by having our youth see the opportunities available to them after high-school and motivating them to continue to do well in in their studies. The Peace Corner will have more visits in the future to other institutions to empower our youth.

Celebrating our Volunteers
Posted on December 21, 2010 10:06PM
During this season of giving we would like to thank all of our volunteers for their many talents and commitment to our programs from creative writing workshops, career planning to everything in between.
Whether they are physically at the youth center or contributing away in spirit, by giving of themselves they are making a positive impact on the young lives and the community that we serve. As the New Year forms we look forward to the current and future volunteers as we offer more programing in our new center. As no action is too small, we encourage the sharing of our volunteers gifts and talents. Thank you for your service as we continue to dream together.
Halloween Party by The Lady Doves
Posted on November 05, 2010 07:00PM
This Halloween, The Lady Doves hosted a Halloween party at The Peace Corner! This event featured an apple bobbing station, a pumpkin painting station, and a station of mystery disgusting discoveries of various body parts. There were also trivia questions so the youth had plenty of fun and opportunities to win prizes. At the end of the party treat bags with candy were handed out to everyone!
The Lady Doves formerly known as the Girls Group is a recent development at The Peace Corner. We meet every Tuesday from 3:30pm-5:30pm. We have discussions, snacks, mentoring, host events, go on trips, play games and generally have fun! Our next plan is to do an Open Mic at a homeless shelter for Thanksgiving!
Youth Attend College Football Game
Posted on September 12, 2010 10:03PM
On a cool and rainy Saturday, the Peace Corner staff and its youth made its way to Evanston IL, to attend a football game between Northwestern University and Illinois State University. But as the football game started surrounded by cheering fans, the weather did not dampen the excitement. For most of the youth, this was their first time on a college campus and it will be memorable as the home team won. After the game as our youth began to think about what schools or subjects of study interested them, a lesson emerged. The lesson was its not about where you go or what you study, its about applying the knowledge with your talents and to always strive for your dreams! We thank the Springboard Foundation for sponsoring this opportunity.
